about

Imagining living on a 'flotilla', or floating island, and what it would feel like to be free of roots, the constructs of loyalty to environment/culture/society. What does it mean to be free? It evolved into a theme song for saying goodbye to 'home': not only what was once physically and emotionally comfortable, but what has changed dramatically about the experience of it as your perception shifts, as you grow, when you depart from it. Or when home is taken from you. Or when home was based on lies. I have experienced all of these in some form, (though from a privileged perspective). This also became a siren's song for America and its change -- and happened to be finished around the time when Trump was elected President.

lyrics

Ur stuck in a place
that once freely gave,
that’s all gone
U search always, in dead ashes of home
ur mind is sinking sand
heart buried, stolen land
and we’ve fallen so far

Vibrations stir the motions
she cracks under our potions,
no longer free -
don’t call on me
sing out for the sea

What was that the wise man said?
No possessions, no obsessions, no retaliations -
imaginary nations
delusional foundations
we pay into our prisons

Vibrations stir the motions
whose fault is it we’re broken?
No longer free
Expired liberty
Sing for the ones who see, the ones who see
